Escorted Transportation for Seniors
ETS/NW: To serve the Lord by serving seniors in need of
transportation
Escorted Transportation
Services/Northwest is
serving the senior
community in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago.
Volunteers take seniors to medical and dental
appointments, wait for them and bring them back again, stopping at
the pharmacy to pick up a prescription on the way home if necessary.
Seniors are thrilled to have such services when they can no longer
drive and family members are unavailable. Often seniors are unable
to use public transportation to meet their medical needs and cabs
can be cost prohibitive. This service is a great way to witness Gods
love on an intergenerational level.
In the photo, Bob Schwermer of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in
Palatine escorts Denny Jauch to a physical therapy appointment at
Alexian Brothers Hospital.
Primarily contributions are needed to help fund start up costs of
this worthwhile program and volunteers are most welcome.

Feb 6, 2007 - ESCORTED TRANSPORTATION FOR SENIORS FINDS NEW HOME
Older adults in the Northwest suburbs have an additional transportation option for getting to doctor and dentist appointments. Escorted Transportation Services Northwest (ETS/NW) is continuing this important service for seniors. Formally operating out of another social service agency for the past twelve years, ETS/NW has now received office space at the Arlington Hts Senior Center on Central and Wilke Roads."We have provided 437 rides in the past four months since we restarted the program" states Kathy Kasprowicz, ETS/NW coordinator. Faithful volunteers stood ready and willing to continue this valuable service for seniors seeking needed transportation.
When a senior phones ETS/NW to request transportation to a medical visit, the program coordinator calls a trained, insured, capable volunteer able to meet the senior's needs. The volunteer then picks up the client at their home, provides escort to the appointment, waits with the senior, and returns the client home. If necessary, a stop at the pharmacy for prescribed medication is also accomplished.
Seniors, who would like to use this dedicated program, may call Kathy at 847-222-9227. A one week notice is helpful and a $10 round trip donation to fund the program is suggested. Boundaries include the Townships of Wheeling, Elk Grove, Palatine, Barrington and a few other outlying communities.
This service is able to continue and grow due to the gracious hours contributed by volunteers. If you would be interested in serving Christ through serving seniors, call Kathy at 847-222-9227.
The Webb Foundation, Lutheran Church Charities, St. James of Arlington Hts., and Prince of Peace of Palatine are contributors to this outreach effort. There are also wonderful individual contributors who want to be a part of assisting our frail elderly in their need for getting to appointments.
Thanks you for your support of the program through prayer, through volunteering and through monetary donations.
