Requested by Elizabeth Galik, Director of Bethel Library, Chicago
If any teachers are cleaning out their classrooms at the end of the year and have extra art or school supplies, we would love to have them for our summer learning program.
That program, known as Learn in Love, serves 25-45
students each day for 8 weeks during the summer. We do literacy, technology,
recreational, and artistic activities, and would appreciate any supplies that
could be used to make crafts, do activities, or play games. 90% of our students
come from low-income households; thus, our program fees are only $20 for the
whole summer---which greatly necessitates donations! We would also deeply appreciate any standing air conditioners--the type that stands on the floor with a snake hose to go up to a window vent. Our windows do not accommodate window-mounted air conditioners, but our large, brick building gets overheated and makes patience run short on kids in the summer. Anything that makes it a few degrees cooler would greatly benefit our children!

Freezer donation helps with Outreach at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Chicago

| On Saturday, May 26th Bob Waterman, member of St John Lutheran Church in Wheaton, and several fellow St John volunteers, picked up a freezer donated by Wayne and Debbie Rosenwinkle and delivered it to Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Chicago. Because of this generous donation Ebenezer will be able to include frozen food items in their food pantry. This will enhance their outreach in the community. | |

Family
In Faith Lutheran Church in Glendale Heights, Illinois has
been distributing 10,000 pounds of food and household items
monthly since the Fall of 2005. The food comes on a truck from
the Northern Illinois Food Bank on the 2nd Saturday of every
month. Volunteers distribute food and other items to somewhere
between 120 and 220 families each month. The food distributed
varies, but typically includes frozen meat, cereal and snacks,
bakery items, frozen entrees, fresh produce, occasionally dairy
products, and various cleaning supplies. Since the pantry began,
more than 150,000 pounds of food and supplies have been given
out, providing desperately needed food to more than 10,000
individuals.
Help Support Pastor Isaac's Orphanage in Haiti
Request for Pastor Isaac Jacquet's Orphanage in HaitiHere it is just before Thanksgiving, a special time for most Americans to stop and review all of God's blessings that we take for granted throughout the rest of the year. In our family we sit around the table before our Thanksgiving meal and tell each other what we are most thankful for. As I make my list of things to be thankful for I can't help but wonder why I have so much and others have so little. I am sure there is a reason. That is why this time of year is so wonderful. It helps us take the time to decide what the Lord wants us to do with our abundance.
I often think of the times I sat with Pastor Isaac in his home for a meal
prepared by his wife and other church members. His wife and children never
joined us at the table. They would eat what was left after the guests had
finished. Even the local restaurants in town never throw away food that may be
left on the diners plate as there are always people waiting in the alley way to
take it home. After seeing this I cannot say "Give us this day our daily bread"
from The Lord's Prayer without thinking of Haiti.

The 10 Orphaned Children (pictured here) that Pastor Isaac has taken into his home have all felt
hunger. There is never enough food for their stomachs but Pastor assures me that
these children will have a better life with him, even without food everyday,
because they are learning that they do not need voodoo to protect them. They
have a Loving God and a Savior who is always with them and he will never abandon
them like so many Haitian children that have been left to die.
My last letter asked for sponsors to help support these 10 children. 16
wonderful sponsors came forward to commit to $25.00 a month. The first
months donation has already been received by Pastor Isaac and he is very
grateful. He will now be able to put some of the children in school.
After talking with a LCMS Missionary who runs a orphanage in another part of
Haiti we decided it will take 4 donors per child to cover food, clothing,
medical and school expenses. Unlike Compassion who asks for $30.00 a month they
do not cover living expenses for the children only fees for the after school
projects run by local churches and maybe 1 meal a day. Pastor is responsible for
ALL of their living expenses. So we are looking for 24 more sponsors.
Please consider feeding a child who is always hungry as you count your blessings
this Thanksgiving.

Food Delivery to Tabor Lutheran - Chicago
On December 20, 2006, LCC volunteers picked up a van-load of food from the donor. The LCC Van was then driven for drop-off to Tabor Lutheran Church in Chicago.
Tabor Lutheran will be using the food donation as part of an Outreach to the community this Christmas Season.
Distribution of Dental Hygiene Items
Dennis Eatherton arranged the donation of 6,000 Butler toothbrushes as well as toothpaste and dental floss. 3,940 were distributed to local Ethic Ministries to be used in outreach to their communities. The remainder will be shipped to the Gulf States. The following churches participated:
- Chicago Inner-City Churches: First St. Paul, The African Immigrant Ministry, Tabor, First Immanuel, New Hope, Bethesda, Chatham Fields, St Philips, St Matthew's, Zion, and First Bethlehem.
- Suburban Churches: San Pablo of Aurora; El Redentor of Rockford, and Family in Faith of Glendale Heights.
- 1,920 Toothbrushes, toothpaste & floss are being delivered to two elementary schools in the Louisiana Bayou for distribution in January.
Pastor
Stephane Kalonji of the French Mission at Zion Lutheran Church, Chicago
was in need of a van to help transport youth and adults to their many
growing programs. LCC received the donation of a van a few days ago and
matched it with this need. HOWEVER, Pastor Kalonji and his congregation
do not have enough money to pay the $700 for the title and insurance, so
we are asking those who are led to help cover this cost so that this
mission can continue to grow and minister to the needs of their
community with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. If you would like to help make this happen and for them to use the van, donate to the Zion Chicago Mission Van fund. Thank you for Making A Difference.
UPDATE - Growing Chicago Church in need of Assistance
Growing Inner-City Church in Desperate Financial Need
Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Chicago's North Lawndale neighborhood needs your help.
Life here at Ebenezer has become a bit of a roller coaster ride. The climb up the hill seems tedious and difficult. You're not really sure if your going to make it to the top. But then you reach the peak. The view is magnificent and you feel as if your on top of the world. What follows is thrilling and exhilarating. On a spiritual high you face the next oncoming hill which looms dauntingly before you.
By the grace of God, we've had several wondrous thrills these past few weeks. Our membership has seen another 3-4% growth. We continue to get a steady influx of visitors seeking a church home, and of people coming to check out the exciting things happening here. We were able to connect our gospel ministry with over 80 people from the neighborhood through an annual block party that we sponsor. We had 8 people confirmed this month, 2 adults and 4 teens. Twenty-four people came to a Saturday morning prayer breakfast. We were able to share the love of Christ with 48 families by giving them food and clothing provided through Lutheran Church Charities. Finally, last night we had 14 people at our Wednesday night Bible study. Seven of these people were first timers.
There is much to be excited about here at Ebenezer. However, our train is in serious danger of being derailed. As of this month our bills and expenses are exceeding our income and reserves. In fact we have no reserves! Our bank account is depleted. We've tried to maximize our stewardship of the resources we have. We have renegotiated our debts with our creditors. We have eliminated all paid staff positions except for myself, the pastor. All maintenance, cleaning, secretarial work, etcetera, is being done on a volunteer basis. We've turned out the lights during daytime services and activities. People are donating paper towel and tissue and every other supply. I've stopped taking reimbursement for mileage and ministry related expenses.
Despite all our efforts, we are at our financial end. Without immediate and significant assistance and support our ministry will come to an end. We ask that all our brothers and sisters in Christ, individually and collectively as congregations, prayerfully consider our situation. Pray for us, and if the Spirit so moves you, support us. Every and any financial aid would be a blessing.
Peace and Joy in Christ Jesus,
Rev. Richard Gizynski
