VOICE OF CARE Ministries

300,000 or more children and adults with developmental disabilities (DD) living in the communities of northern Illinois need to know the welcoming love of Christ in His Church.  Over 90% of these do not have a church home.  Voice of Care seeks to equip the Church to reach out and serve with persons who have DD and their families through:
  • Congregation-based programs, Bible classes, confirmation programs, visitation ministry at institutions, etc., for which VOC provides training and resources,
  • Spiritual Care Ministry of Pastor Don Kretzschmar and VOC volunteers to people whom congregations are less able to reach and serve because of the degree of their disability, people served in 8 residential and day-program settings,
  • Camping Ministry at the Handy Camp Program of Walcamp Outdoor Ministry Center, 3 five-day camps each summer and 2 winter weekend retreats at which children and adults with DD are served.
  • Caregiver support through an organization called Lutherans for Persons Developmentally Disabled, LPDD, which meets four times each year with topics and activities useful to Christian caregivers and people with DD.
